The Light that Failed

Já li alguns livros, e de todos o autor mais lido é sem sombra de duvidas Rudyard Kipling. Gosto particularmente a forma como é retratada a vida no fim do século XIX, a vida da "alta-sociedade" na cidade, a vida nas colónias na India, as expedições no meio da selva, e toda a envolvente daqueles tempos.

No entanto durante a leitura deste ultimo livro que li, "The Light that Failed" por diversas vezes [mais do que em todos os outros juntos] encontrei "sentimentos\situações" com as quais me identifiquei\identifico muito. O engraçado foi ver que nem sempre os sentimentos com os quais me identificava eram da mesma personagem, mas iam sendo partilhados um pouco por todas elas[personagens]! E sendo assim por diversas vezes ao longo do livro fui sorrindo, quer por surpresa [de onde surgiam as situações "familiares"], quer por me parecerem tão genuínas, e por me identificar com elas. :)

 was the first, other than those demanded by duty, in all the world that 
 either had ever given or taken, it opened to them new worlds, and every 
 one of them glorious, so that they were lifted above the consideration 
 of any worlds at all, especially those in which tea is necessary, and 
 sat still, holding each other's hands and saying not a word.

'I'm going into the matter with my eyes open. Moreover the Queen can
do no wrong. It isn't your selfishness that impresses me. It's your
audacity in proposing to make use of me.'

But you must learn to forgive a man

'Now what is there in that nonsense to make a man restless?' said Dick,
hauling Binkie from his feet to his chest.
'It depends on the man,' said Torpenhow.
'The man who has been down to look at the sea,' said the Nilghai.

The queen could do no wrong, but
in following the right, so far as it served her work, she had wounded her
one subject more than his own brain would let him know.

e pronto.... apenas quis partilhar um bom livro... que para além de ter sido escrito há 120 anos atrás continua a ser uma óptima história.... cheia de situações que acontecem ainda durante o nosso dia a dia.
